Kent County Inmate Search

The Kent County Sheriff's Office runs the public jail roster. Anyone can look up Kent County inmate records through the Web Jail Viewer, a free browser tool that the Sheriff's Office puts online. The roster covers people booked into the Kent County Correctional Facility in Grand Rapids. A Kent County inmate search shows booking numbers, names, dates, charges, mugshots, bond, and the court case tied to each arrest. The tool is for current and recent custody data, not state prison records and not federal cases.

Kent County Web Jail Viewer

The Kent County Web Jail Viewer is the official public booking search for the Kent County Correctional Facility. The tool runs on Executive Information Services version 25.12.0.0, and the page sits on the Sheriff's Office subdomain. It is free to use. The tool needs a full last name to start. First name and a booking date range are optional. The search returns a grid of recent bookings, and a click opens a detail page with charges, court case numbers, bond, and a mugshot.

Reading the Kent County Inmate Search Results

The results grid shows a row for each booked person who matches the query. The default page size is 10, and the page-size selector offers 5, 10, or 20 rows. Sortable column headers let a user re-rank by name or booking date. The grid also shows page navigation (first / previous / next / last), a refresh link, and a total-candidate count. If the search returns no rows, the grid shows a "No records available" message.

  5. Click Search. The grid loads with the matches.
  6. Click the result row to open the detail page. Read the custody status badge first.

For a cash or 10 percent bond, the payer posts the full bond amount, or 10 percent if a 10 percent bond is set. If the person appears in court, 90 percent of a 10 percent bond, or the full cash bond, is refunded, minus court fees and fines. If the person fails to appear, the bond is forfeited.

Visitation, Mail, and Phone Privileges

Kent County publishes a Mail, Telephone & Tablet Privileges page that covers the inmate communication rules. Effective April 1, 2025, the facility no longer accepts personal mail, books, or magazines sent direct to inmates. Personal mail is sent to a Smart Communications address that scans the mail and posts it to the inmate's tablet.

Information That Is Not Public

The Web Jail Viewer leaves out a long list of fields. Medical flags, mental-health details, suicide watch, protective custody status, internal classification, victim identifiers, juvenile information, and sealed warrants and cases are not in the public output. Juvenile data is restricted by MCL 712A.28. Health and mental-health detail is restricted by federal and state health privacy law.

The disclaimer at the bottom of every detail page tells users to contact the jail facility direct if information looks wrong. The hosting vendor disclaims responsibility for the content posted by the agency. A user should never assume the public page is the full record. It is a snapshot of public booking data.

Common Kent County Inmate Search Problems

A few patterns trip up Kent County inmate searches. The name on the booking may differ from the name a user expects (a middle name, a prior surname, or a legal spelling). The person may have been released since the last search. The booking may be too old for the default page-size view, so a user should extend the date range. The case may have moved from county jail to MDOC after sentencing, so the search needs to shift to OTIS.

Note: The Web Jail Viewer shows recent public bookings. If the inmate is not in the result, try a wider booking date range or check the state and federal locators.
